Royal Electric is very proud of our intern, Evan Albright, on being awarded one of the top four AGC Construction Education Foundation Scholarships for 2014! Evan served six years in the Navy and is now a Construction Management student at Sac State, while working in Royal's Multi-Family Residential Division. Way to go, Evan!

Folsom Lake College Gets a New Gym

Royal Electric is proud to announce that we're building the new gymnasium at Folsom Lake College with Flint Builders. With a spectator gym, a separate practice gym, locker rooms, offices, laundry facilities and more, this is a beautiful addition to the campus. Royal's foreman, David, and the crew are scheduled to complete this project in early fall.
We hope to have some happy students around the completion date!

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY ADDS 6,000 JOBS IN JUNE AS SECTOR'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECLINES TO 8.2 PERCENT, LOWEST JUNE LEVEL IN SIX YEARS | AGC - The Associated General Contractors of America

Construction employers added 6,000 workers to payrolls in June as the industry's unemployment rate dropped to 8.2 percent, its lowest June level in six years, according to an analysis of new government data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials cautioned, however, that recent employment gains could be undermined when the federal government begins scaling back transportation investments in August. "The construction industry continues to expand gradually and unevenly," said Ken Simonson, the association's chief economist. "Despite recent job growth, construction employment is still more than 1.7 million jobs or 22 percent below its 2006 peak." Construction employment totaled 6,015,000 in June, the highest total since June 2009 and an increase of 186,000 or 3.2 percent from a year earlier, Residential construction added 6,600 jobs in June and 106,300 (4.9 percent) over 12 months.

Training Facility

The training facility we are building at Moffett Federal Airfield is nearing completion of the rough-in stage. Check out the beautiful conduit work in our electric room. Kudos to our foreman, Jeff, and our whole crew for their high quality workmanship. Fun Fact: That tower will be used for drying parachutes for the Air National Guard!

WECA Program Comes to a Close

This was the last day of school in a five year program for Royal apprentices Leo, Kent, Ted & Michael. Congrats to these guys (and Tom who finished class last month!) for accomplishing journeyman electrician status through the WECA program. Royal is extremely proud of you!

Royal Electric Takes Leadership in ABC Northern California

You may not know this, but Royal belongs to several industry associations.  Some associations train apprentices, some support subcontractors, some are contractor associations in general.  Royal has been a member of Associated Builders and Contractors Northern California for many years.  ABC NorCal supports merit-shop contractors and workers - by training apprentices, fighting Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), electing candidates at the local, state and national level, and helping contractors navigate through California labor laws.

On January 10th, our own Dina Kimble, partner at Royal Electric Company, was elected chair of the Board of Directors at ABC NorCal. Along with several other contractors and associates, as a member of the board Dina helps set policy for the direction of ABC Nor Cal.  The goals for the next two years of the association include: recruiting and training tomorrow's workforce to meet the growing demand for skilled tradesmen and women, creating opportunities for members to get their employees involved in ways that are meaningful and interesting to them, and building coalitions with other industry associations to enact legislation that helps all contractors in California.

In a very special turn of events, ABC NorCal asked Frank Vellutini, owner of Royal Electric Company, to administer the oath to the incoming 2014 Board of Directors.  James Fitzgerald of MarketOne Builders, last year's board chair, handed over the ABC baton to Dina as she took office.

Royal Electric is very proud of Dina, and proud to actively participate in ABC Northern California.

Out With The Old

Working for SMUD, Royal crews removed an old utility pole base.  The utilities are being relocated for the Grant Line Road Expansion project.  Royal is always ready to do the tough projects for our customers!
